Branding your Profile

Branding in it's simplest terms is reducing every single element of a consumers experience down to only the most essential elements that communicate your core values & aesthetics.

You only have a few seconds to convey the message of your project or profile. Keeping you message clear and clean will have the best impact on visitors

Let's focus on key areas that communicate the most about you

Your banner is your business card

Your bio is your elevator pitch

Your profile pic appears with every tweet an in every twitter space

Your name/title is also your message

Your banner is your business card

As with any good marketing material your banner should be concise and representative of what best constitutes your "message" or "perspective" to your viewers. Think of an invitation card for a classic gallery opening; the card (or banner) would use a work of art or a collage of your pieces that best represents your art's, character, inspiration and motivation. Consider the layout of your Twitter banner in the "Twitter Banner Design" section to make sure your layout is effectively communicating your overall message.

Your bio is your elevator pitch

This can often be one of the most challenging parts for Artists who want to "let the work speak for itself". Distilling your message down to a couple lines is not only hard for Artists it's one of the hardest practices in refining your pitch for any business, brand or cause.

Often in our art we are working with concepts or aspirations that are very hard to put our own finger on let alone try to communicate but you don't have to have answers here as much as you should try to ask the right questions.

As an artist what drives you? what intrigues you? what context does your work have in art history? Any of these questions can help focus your audience on the vision you have for your work.

Be sure to also read the section on using "the ladder" in refining your message.
